Westgate Hill Primary Academy Receives “Outstanding” Judgment from Ofsted
BackWestgate Hill Primary Academy, a member of the Laidlaw Schools Trust, has received an “Outstanding” judgment from Ofsted on every category of assessment. In only four years, the leaders, teachers and support staff at Westgate Hill have transformed the school through their commitment to inspirational education.
Westgate Hill has benefited from the “LST difference”, additional funding from the Laidlaw Foundation which allowed the school to repair and enhance the historic Victoria Building, establish a ‘digital library’ as an online hub for research and discovery, train specialist staff to teach students how to read and much more.
The Ofsted report praises the school for being highly inclusive with an “unwavering vision for every pupil to achieve their best.”
Chair of Governors at WHPA, Laura Robb, said:
“I am so incredibly proud of everyone at WHPA. It was a special privilege to be able to see the reaction of staff as they heard the judgment of Outstanding. They care so much about our pupils and our school. Everyone is thrilled and ready for the next adventure at WHPA.”
WHPA KS2 Head of School, Karl Ellerbrook, said:
“This is just brilliant news for our wonderful children, staff and families. Our journey at Westgate Hill has been transformative, assisted by additional funding from LST. The children can now learn in a suitable environment with specialist adult support, offering the very best education. This outstanding judgement means so much to us at Westgate Hill: we have all worked so hard, for so long, to overcome our unique set of challenges.”
WHPA EYFS & KS1 Head of School, Nick Watson, said:
“An amazing result for an amazing school! With the significant and sustained support from Laidlaw Schools Trust, we have propelled Westgate Hill Primary Academy into the Outstanding category. We would like to say a huge thank you to our staff, parents and pupils who have made this fantastic achievement possible.”

About the Laidlaw Schools Trust
The Laidlaw Schools Trust is a growing multi-academy trust based in North East England that transforms the lives of children and communities through inspirational education. Founded in 2008, to sponsor the opening of Excelsior Academy in Newcastle, we now have seven schools in the Trust, educating nursery school children all the way through to A-level students. Working in partnership with children, their families and the wider community, we will provide a safe and nurturing environment for each child, irrespective of ability or background. We empower them to believe in themselves and to embrace the future as active, respectful and responsible citizens.
