Executive Lead of EdTech and Innovation

Paul Tullock

Paul joined Laidlaw Schools Trust in January 2024 as Executive Lead of EdTech and Innovation.  He has responsibility for digital vision, strategy and innovation across the Trust, supporting schools, staff and students with improving teaching and learning through digital technology. He has a passion for developing staff in accessible learning, collaboration and creativity.

Paul started teaching in 2007 in Northumberland as a PE Lead before transitioning into a role as Computing Lead where he integrated iPad learning in 2012.  He quickly began supporting all students through accessible learning to ensure every child can overcome barriers to learning and not be an anxious learner.

When he moved to North Tyneside in 2014 he implemented a successful 1:1 iPad scheme at his school and became Assistant Headteacher. He also became a Lead Teacher supporting other schools, teachers and local agencies such as the North Tyneside Dyslexia Team with digital learning.  In 2016, he went to Shenzen in China to support the Futian Education Board with digital learning, showcasing how creativity and problem-solving can enhance teaching and learning. In 2017, Paul was recognised as an Apple Distinguished Educator, one of only 3,000 teachers worldwide, for his innovative use of technology to improve teaching and learning. In 2019, he achieved Apple's highest accreditation, becoming an Apple Professional Learning Specialist. As the pandemic hit in 2020, Paul left the classroom to become a full-time Apple Professional Learning Specialist working with various Apple Authorised Education Specialists, to support schools and MAT's across the UK to develop their digital strategies, as well as designing curriculums, bespoke professional learning plans and coaching/mentoring staff.  He holds a range of accreditations including Apple, Microsoft and Google.

Paul lives on the coast with his wife and two children. In his spare time, he loves to travel and enjoys being outdoors, especially on the water on a kayak or paddleboard. He's a keen sportsman and coaches his son's football team, as well as being a huge fan of Newcastle United.
